BUG OFF MALARIA
12 May 2020 - 30 Aug 2020
One Kind Act, Global FICCS & Lentorre Lodge announce the launch of their Bug Off Malaria Campaign with immediate effect: MALARIA, The Ignored PandemicDetailsYou can hardly go a minute in today’s world without being bombarded by news about COVID-19. It has affected us all in one way or another, and there is no question that the impact is huge. However, as is the case with most crises, other important and immediate issues can get ignored. This is definitely the case with Malaria in Kenya right now. After prolonged rains in November, December and January, the rains have hit again across the country. This amount of standing water, especially in rural areas is excellent breeding ground for Mosquitos and the onset of Malaria. Some facts1. 16% of all outpatient consultations in Kenya are Malaria related, and that is only what is reported.2. Loss of Income: The effects of Malaria on households include economic pressure from having to treat the patient, because they cannot work. It is especially devastating to children and pregnant women.3. Limited Access: The knock-on effect is significant in small communities that do not have access to medicines and the infrastructure to help them recover, let alone prevent the disease.4. Prevention: Treated mosquito nets remain the primary first defence against the deadly disease. How can you support? One Kind Act have partnered up with two Kenyan-based organisations, Lentorre Lodge (www.lentorre.com) and Global FICCS https://www.facebook.com/globalficcs/) who have, for many years, been working with the Olkiramatian, Shompole and Entasopia communities in Kajiado county on various projects. These communities are located past Magadi Town, bordering with Tanzania. They have little to no infrastructure, medical facilities and resources. At this point in time, their need is great to combat Malaria and we ask you to join hands with us to ensure that they are not confronted by another silent and deadly killer. The goal is to distribute 4000 family size, treated mosquito nets and 1000 food packages, starting with those most vulnerable. Lentorre & Global FICCS will work closely with the leaders of the communities to ensure this reaches the right hands and they will be personally involved on the ground. The cost of each net: Kshs 400 ($4 or £3.25) and each food package: Kshs 1500 ($15 or £12.25)Please do support! Every donation means a lot to the families so that they can sleep protected and keep a normal semblance of life in these trying times. Small or large, every little bit will help.Thank you from everyone at Lentorre Lodge, Global FICCS and One Kind Act.About One Kind ActOne Kind Act Changes Communities and lives of others globally who suffer as a result of Poverty of Health, Nutrition and Education and may have Fallen Through The Net of the larger charities. NishkamSWAT: £3750 to provide meals directly to our brave NHS workers who constantly are risking their lives to help the very vulnerable and sick within hospitals. OKA are reaching out to other hands-on voluntary groups here in the UK and other Causes around the world that are dealing with the challenges of COVID-19 to help in any way we can during this crisis and will be deploying further funds imminently. PLEASE DONATE HERE TO HELP US HELP OTHERS. DetailsOne Kind Act hope that you and all your family are well and staying safe in view of all that is happening around the world. It’s a hugely uncertain time globally, with closures everywhere affecting everyone. So many of our plans have been disrupted, leaving us frustrated and disappointed. But more sadly, so many people’s lives are now so adversely affected by the economic aftermath of all closures. Impoverished people already experiencing serious hardships are now even more vulnerable to the threat of Covid-19, along with the elderly and people with serious health issues. One Kind Act are very clear, we HAVE to help in any way we can. So, One Kind are launching a COVID-19 Relief Fund with immediate effect. At the outset, we are teaming up with two trustworthy UK Causes we already support who we knew would step up to this crisis. You’ll see below what measures these Causes have already taken to help the local communities. And going forward, we may well identify other Causes doing similar work whom we will want to support after necessary due diligence. It is with our best intention that all monies raised through this Relief Fund will be used as intended, either through provision of food or meeting other needs. NishkamSWATAs well as the normal regular feeding of the homeless, NishkamSWAT will be providing a FREE MOBILE LANGAR SERVICE at this crucial time of need for over 65-year olds in isolation. They will be taking all the necessary health and safety precautions to make sure they run a safe service to bring food to their doorstep. They have sent out an appeal to all their communities to identify these vulnerable people who would benefit from this service. NishkamSWAT have also got involved in providing meals directly our brave NHS workers who constantly are risking their lives to help the very vulnerable and sick within hospitals. Their Free Mobile Langar Service has served over 3000 meals so far to NHS staff at these following hospitals; Chelsea & Westminster, Royal Free, West Middlesex, Ealing, Hillingdon & Northwick Park. Their needs are increasing day by day as most canteens are closed. The staff work long hours on the frontline and risk their lives for our safety. The grant will go a long way towards providing regular meals for the staff. LONDON COMMUNITY KITCHEN (formerly known as THE REAL JUNK FOOD PROJECT) London Community Kitchen have been enlisted onto the Harrow council “mini cobra committee” and have been given full access to the Council’s fleet of vans and social workers to help distribute hot food and parcels to the needy. LCK founder, Taz Gaffar, has been nominated to lead the distribution. LCK find themselves to be the only Hub currently operational in the Borough of Harrow. They are truly overwhelmed with the demands upon them; they are supplying on an average of 120 families food provision daily as well as supporting several organisations including, Mind, Men cap, HAD, Relief, Harrow Care Homes and Northwick Park Hospital. Please see below photos of the London Community Kitchen based in Harrow of food parcels being prepared by a group of volunteers for the most vulnerable, as identified by the Harrow Council, as a result of the pandemic. BOTH CAUSES CLEARLY NEED MONEY TO BUY ALL PROVISIONS THEY NEED TO PREPARE THE FOOD THEY INTEND TO DISTRIBUTE TO THE VULNERABLE. PLEASE DONATE TO HELP US HELP THEM. You may DONATE by way of: 1. An online donation on this Page by clicking on PLEDGE NOW or2. A Bank Transfer/Cheque/Cash by proceeding to the DONATE tab at the top of this Page where you will be able to download our Manual Donation Form which provides the bank details and the address to which the form/cheque/cash should be sent. ViaNinos & One Kind Act are delighted to announce their forthcoming event, The Latino Party:Post Event Update 19th Octobert 2019 - OKA Associate Meena DhawanVia Ninos and One Kind Act’s first collaboration of a Latino evening promised to be a evening of fun and it certainly did not disappoint. From the impressive venue “ The Exchange at the Collective” in Willesden, to the scrumptious canapés,to the fantastic Latino live band “ Combo Yanze’ “ and samba de gafieira dancers, it was certainly a feel good happy event. Even the most reluctant, shy, hesitant of guests were soon swaying their hips & tapping their feet, reliving once forgotten dance moves. As the auction started, the laughter subsided and the serious business of fundraising was brought to attention. Auction prizes of superb wine, dinner in gourmet restaurants & weekend breaks to the New Forest & Tuscany, tempted many to dig deep into their pockets and soon a total of £2000 was reached. Via Ninos & One Kind Act would like to thank those that gave so generously. This will enable Via Ninos to continue the incredible work they do with the street children of Ecuador, bringing them social workers & teachers in order to help them break free of poverty through education. We hope to see you all again next year ! Event DetailsCome and enjoy The Latino Party, an evening of enticing salsa dancing, food and drink in aid of ViaNiños, a nonprofit organisation working to support vulnerable children, young people and their families in Ecuador. Their aim is to create a better future for these children and their families. The Latino Party will raise money to fund the salary of an outreach worker who will work closely with volunteers towards ending child labour in Ecuador. By providing educational and recreational activities within a safe environment they'll offer much needed healthcare assistance and support through school enrolments. From as early as 2 years old many of these children are forced to work, starting at 04:00 in the morning accompanying their parents and often working up to 12 hours a day. Many of these children live in a hostile environment and will be subjected to abuse, neglect, discrimination, and malnutrition on a daily basis. They are deprived of an education and forced to work because of poverty. Help us to get these children into schools and provide them with an education. Your support means we can help them break free from the poverty cycle. It means by giving them a love of learning and building their self-esteem we can help build a new, brighter future for these children and their families. COME DANCING....BUY YOUR TICKETS NOW! Food is not just given away - many of their beneficiaries purchase it on a ‘pay as you feel’ basis. This innovating and sustainable concept is being rolled out all over the UK, and we are proud to be assisting TRJFP with their medium term goal to establish a renovated Community Kitchen with increased storage capacity at a facility provided by the International Gospel Church (non faith based)2. AB JEETEGA INDIA FOUNDATION – Grass root level sport in India is fractured and segmented on the shameful bias of socio-economic, caste, religion and gender status. And even though the population is among the world’s youngest and has the innate potential and talent, opportunity is not always available to those who are deserving!Ab Jeetega India offers underprivileged athletes a high quality, equal and transparent sporting platform to make their sporting dreams come true and give them experiences which will give them the skills to succeed in life outside of sport too. 3. MADE WITH HOPE, TANZANIA – Made With Hope’s mission is to provide education to the poor children that live in rural communities around Arusha in Tanzania. Their current project is to support CHETI Primary School & Girls Boarding House, a private school that has been providing high-quality education to the community for many years. The school is in desperate need of expansion. Made With Hope has already funded and constructed 5 more classrooms at this school, however an extra 3 classrooms need to be built costing £23,185 which will enable an additional 135 children to be taught to a high level.
