'Life after Stroke'
30 Apr 2019 - 30 Apr 2019
One Kind Act are delighted to announce the success of our 'Life After Stroke' fund-raising afternoon. Post Event Update1st May 2019On a sunny afternoon in May, One Kind Act hosted an event to raise awareness of head injury. Balwinder Kapila, an astonishingly brave, articulate and positive woman lost her vibrant, sports-loving 15 year old son unexpectedly to a stroke some years ago. In his memory she self-published a cook book, "A Pinch of Spice" with traditional, home-made recipes passed down through generations from our great grandmothers and beyond. In typical One Kind Act style, the afternoon was full of fun, laughter, an abundance of food and drink, in the sprawling country home of trustee Mona Bhogal. There was a chance to peruse and buy beautiful traditional Indian jewellery. This was interspersed with poignancy and heartache as Balwinder related the story of why and how the book came into being. The book, which is a testament to how something constructive and positive can emerge from tragedy sold dozens of copies on the day.£905 was raised on the day which will go a long way in improving the lives of children affected by stroke. It will be granted to the Indian Head Injury Foundation - a charity OKA support that is very close to our hearts (see further details under CAUSES) - to purchase a multi-activities workstation used for upper extremities exercises required by these children. The workstation will be named in memory of Balwinder's son, Aman Kapila.About One Kind ActOne Kind Act Changes Communities and lives of others globally who suffer as a result of Poverty of Health, Nutrition and Education and may have Fallen Through The Net of the larger charities. Desperate families can help themselves to groceries or eat in the café for as little as they can afford and supermarkets do not waste a mountain of perfectly good food. 15 Mar 2018 - 30 Jul 2018
Prideview Group are delighted to announce their forthcoming event, The Prideview Cricketers' Cup 2018.Post Event 3 August 2018Prideview's annual cricket tournament was held on Sunday 15 July, full of promise of being a glorious hot sunshine day. It certainly lived up to its expectations!A variety of market stalls of local businesses like jewellery, saris and beauty products, a women's bowl out competition, ample food and chilled drinks throughout the day and auction and raffles with the wonderful variety of prizes ALL lent itself to a fantastic day of fun, relaxation and worthy fundraising. And as to the cricket tournament itself, it was down to the law firm, Axiom Stone, and pharmacists, Jade Pharmacy, in the Finals. Having smashed Axiom Stone to pieces the last time the two teams met in the PCC ’17 Semi Final, many thought it was going to be trophy number 4 for the supercharged pharmacists. However this Axiom Stone side had not faltered once in the competition, leaving the final 2 batsmen to combat the last over. And lo and behold, Axiom Stone beat Jade Pharmacy by 18 runs to win The Prideview Cricketers’ Cup! Jade Pharmacy’s powers, like those of most prescription drugs, had finally waned and they learned a lesson most of us know in property – don’t mess with your lawyer! An outstanding £21,792 was raised which will go to help noble and forward thinking Causes that One Kind Act have the privilege of supporting. The tournament will finish at 4pm and the Prideview team will be screening the Finals in the Merchant Taylors’ Bar, a new facility with adequate capacity that is located close to the cricket pitches.
