The Latino Party
12 Oct 2019
ViaNinos & One Kind Act are delighted to announce their forthcoming event, The Latino Party:Post Event Update 19th Octobert 2019 - OKA Associate Meena DhawanVia Ninos and One Kind Act’s first collaboration of a Latino evening promised to be a evening of fun and it certainly did not disappoint. From the impressive venue “ The Exchange at the Collective” in Willesden, to the scrumptious canapés,to the fantastic Latino live band “ Combo Yanze’ “ and samba de gafieira dancers, it was certainly a feel good happy event. Even the most reluctant, shy, hesitant of guests were soon swaying their hips & tapping their feet, reliving once forgotten dance moves. As the auction started, the laughter subsided and the serious business of fundraising was brought to attention. Auction prizes of superb wine, dinner in gourmet restaurants & weekend breaks to the New Forest & Tuscany, tempted many to dig deep into their pockets and soon a total of £2000 was reached. Via Ninos & One Kind Act would like to thank those that gave so generously. This will enable Via Ninos to continue the incredible work they do with the street children of Ecuador, bringing them social workers & teachers in order to help them break free of poverty through education. We hope to see you all again next year ! Event DetailsCome and enjoy The Latino Party, an evening of enticing salsa dancing, food and drink in aid of ViaNiños, a nonprofit organisation working to support vulnerable children, young people and their families in Ecuador. Their aim is to create a better future for these children and their families. The Latino Party will raise money to fund the salary of an outreach worker who will work closely with volunteers towards ending child labour in Ecuador. By providing educational and recreational activities within a safe environment they'll offer much needed healthcare assistance and support through school enrolments. From as early as 2 years old many of these children are forced to work, starting at 04:00 in the morning accompanying their parents and often working up to 12 hours a day. Many of these children live in a hostile environment and will be subjected to abuse, neglect, discrimination, and malnutrition on a daily basis. They are deprived of an education and forced to work because of poverty. Help us to get these children into schools and provide them with an education. Your support means we can help them break free from the poverty cycle. It means by giving them a love of learning and building their self-esteem we can help build a new, brighter future for these children and their families. COME DANCING....BUY YOUR TICKETS NOW! STEP A-HEAD BALL
20 Jan 2018
One Kind Act is delighted to announce its forthcoming event, STEP A-HEAD CHARITY BALL:The final value of the Total Amount Raised was £104,457. Post Event Update22 January 2018, OKA AssociateIt was the night One Kind Act grew in the hearts and minds of people. The Step A- Head ball was an extraordinary night which took over 500 guests on an unprecedented journey. It started with a champagne reception, light hearted banter over canapés and laughter in an enchanting musical ambiance. Call for dinner was followed by powerful speeches about personal journeys of loss, heartbreak, bereavement and despair from which emerged hope, rehabilitation, redemption and ultimately triumph. There was a mesmerised silence, standing ovations, tears of empathy, tears of joy culminating in the sense of being deeply connected to the joy and suffering of humanity. The astonishing band glittered and interacted with the guests filling the room with an ineffable joie de vivre and a full dance floor.Inclusive of ticket sales, sponsorships, donations, auction and sale of raffle tickets, an outstanding amount of just over £100,000 was raised. These funds will be deployed towards life-affirming care for those suffering the aftermath of brain injury in UK and abroad. Words cannot do justice to how powerfully lives will be transformed and lives will be saved. What guests said:"I thought One Kind Act was a small charity but am so surprised to find out how seriously big your work is""I had no idea One Kind Act had supported so many causes. It's incredible, impressive work. You should be proud""What a fantastic evening! You should be very proud of yourselves, absolutely brilliant night had by all. Your hard work was definitely worth it""I can truly say it was one of the best functions I have been to. Credit to the committee""OH MY GOD.....fantastic fantastic evening. Well done...you are AMAZING""Thank you so much for a lovely evening, truly amazing, such a great cause and you are a star""Such a fantastic evening, so much detail in the organisation. Very moving speeches. Not easy to raise so much but YOU DID IT"A young girl's story.....‘When one door closes, another opens’.In 2016, Alisha, 26, daughter of the Chairman of One Kind Act, had an unexpected brain haemorrhage. Rushed in for emergency surgery, she was given only a slim chance of survival.Today she has improved remarkably on a journey that still stretches far into the future. In her typical compassionate way, she wants to reach out and help others in similar situations who may not have had the same support and medical care she was fortunate to receive.Watch the video below for Alisha's StoryToo often, victims of brain injury do not have access to the level of care required to save their lives or to adequately re-assimilate into society. Rehabilitation for them is virtually non-existent, or where available, is highly expensive. Some victims of traumatic injuries face some very complex and challenging needs, perhaps having to re-learn to walk, talk and formulate thought. All funds raised at the Ball will support Causes, here in the UK and abroad, who tirelessly work for the well-being of sufferers with brain trauma, miraculously enhancing their lives through physical and mental rehabilitation. Event DetailsThe Step A-Head Ball will be a fun, living and giving night, with a 3 course dinner, unlimited free drinks, an auction and raffle prizes to be won. Tough Mudder 2017
29 Jan 2017 - 30 Jul 2017
Shiv Khindria is delighted to announce his forthcoming event, Tough Mudder 2017.Post Event Update 16 May 2017, Aditi Beri25 obstacles, 12 miles of mud, 10,000 volts of electricity and 1 ice bath later the One Kind Act team successfully completed Tough Mudder! One week on and our scratches, bruises and aching muscles are starting to heal, however the post Tough Mudder celebrations we are still yet to recover from. How long can we use the excuse "Tough Mudder injuries" to avoid all exercise and responsibilities?!The first obstacle got us down in the mud from the start with us all crawling and rolling across the ground to avoid the tangled barbed wires above. Looking back, this almost seemed ‘fun’ compared to the horrific obstacles to come.Arctic Enema certainly lived up to all the stories we’d heard in the run up to Tough Mudder. Plunging through a dark tunnel into ice cold water the reps advise you to take a breath before ducking back underwater to avoid a wooden barrier and reach the end. Who thinks of these obstacles?!A favourite amongst the team was the Blockness Monster where you have to pull yourself over rotating barriers in deep, muddy water. Some Mudders managed to get through without too much trouble, others went head first crashing into the water. Both approaches worked however the latter brought much more joy to onlookers. We then faced Everest, a 15 ft steep halfpipe where all you can rely on is the grip of your trainers and the rest of your team to pull you up when (or if) you reach the top. It’s chaos at its finest. Picture strangers twice your size running towards you with crazy eyes and expecting you to help them up at the top. Comedy gold (for the ones watching anyway.)The final hurdle was the Electroshock Therapy. With only hanging electrical wires between yourself and the finish line the best method seemed to be run like the wind. Let’s just say wet clothes and 10,000 volts isn’t the best way to spend a Saturday. We would like to thank EVERYONE for their generous donations and supportive messages over the past few weeks. Having the opportunity to raise money for such a fantastic cause is what pushed us to the end (alongside knowing there was a cold beverage waiting for us at the finish line!)Another huge thankyou to those that came out and supported us on the day – banner included! It made the whole experience one we won’t forget. We are thrilled to have raised nearly £3000 for One Kind Act to support communities and charities all over the world. Thanks again,The OKA Tough Mudder TeamShiv, Raj, Sareeka, Leah, Karun, Jaya, Rohan & AditiEvent DetailsTough Mudder involves 10 - 12 miles of mud and obstacles built to test your mental grit, camaraderie and all-around physical fitness. It is a team-oriented challenge with no winner, no finisher medal, no clock to race against—just an ice cold drink and a few good scrapes from a day spent outside and free from everyday bullshit. It is for anyone who has ever followed their gut, tried to defy gravity, chosen “dare” over “truth,” taken risks, sought thrills, or is generally awesome at life. Turns out, it's all been training. As a group, we have all decided it is a great challenge for us and an opportunity for us to raise money for the great causes supported by One Kind Act.The Mudder Team are:Aditi Beri Risha Seth Jaya Bedi Rohan SoniKarun Soni Sareeka KashypLeah Khindria Satish BeriRaj Bansal Shiv KhindriaAbout One Kind ActOne Kind Act Changes Communities and lives of others globally who suffer as a result of Poverty of Health, Nutrition and Education and may have Fallen Through The Net of the larger charities. The Throwback
14 Oct 2016
be.OKA are delighted to announce their forthcoming event, The Throwback: Post Event Update25 October 2016As One Kind Act continues to grow from strength to strength, so has our desire to get all generations of supporters involved. That’s why we launched be.OKA - a part of OKA that wants to inspire the young crowd to live and give together! On the 14th October this year, be.OKA had its launch event at Shutterbug in Shoreditch. The venue were unsure whether we would be able to sell enough tickets to hit the minimum spend and were further worried when we told them that we’d be starting at 7:30 and finishing at 2am - well, this is how we got on. People started to trickle in a little after 7:30 and by 9pm the venue was already looking full. We had the sounds of iAmrisha warming the crowd up before DJ Sachy took over to see us through the night. Outside, the covered garden was full of people chatting, doing shisha and consuming plenty of shots (in the name of charity, of course). By the time we finished, over 150 be.OKA-ers had sold out and filled out the entire venue. In fact, we had to extend the night to 3am because so many people were still enjoying themselves at 2 (it would have gone on longer if some had their way, but an end had to put to this madness!).Thanks to all those that came and help us raise £2,453.40 to support our cause. This is just the first of what we hope becomes a regular gathering of be.OKA supporters across a variety of events!Event DetailsWelcome to our next Youth event as the debut of be.OKA ! be.OKA continue the ethos of One Kind Act of living and giving by running its awesome youth (in mind and not age!) activities, fundraisers and parties while raising money for One Kind Act. Tough Mudder May 2016
13 Mar 2016 - 11 Jun 2016
Karun Soni and the Bluefin Team are delighted to announce their forthcoming event, Tough Mudder Challenge:Post Event Update 2 May 20169am - the team are together, pretty much all of us are Bluefinians (work for Bluefin Solutions) and we are raring to go.9:15am - Adrenaline pumping, music blasting as we hop, skip and stretch near the starting line with a really dodgy DJ strutting about. 9:20am - Bang- We’re off! The day looks glorious, the sun is out and most importantly it isn’t too muddy… yet. I’ll stop using times now as it’s all a blur after this point! We’re 1 mile in and we saw a pretty challenging obstacle, climbing over a wall three times our size. Once we got over that, I came to regret complaining about the heat, when we closed in on ‘Arctic Enema’. A terrifying obstacle, where you jump into icy, freezing water! One by one our team slid down into the water, screaming as we dunked our heads under the floating tyres and come out the other side in complete shock. We kept running in the extremely challenging Reading hills, into the final stretch. With this course of 12 miles, we were all exhausted, but the famous obstacle of electrocution was yet to come. With a Zap here and a scream there, we all bravely ran through this obstacle of hanging electrical wires… crossing it with a surge of relief, happiness and pride crossing the finish line. A beer, t shirt and headband were handed to us as we crossed it… about bloody time! The team was absolutely brilliant, and I cannot thank them enough for their brilliant contribution and for raising over a thousand pounds (and thanks Bluefin Solutions for doubling that!) Karun SoniPost Event Comments by Attendees 5 May 2016, Bluefin TeamOn a beautiful May morning, a squad of like-minded individuals from Bluefin decided to endure the arduous task of taking on the Tough Mudder course.Armed with weeks of gruelling training and of course paying for themselves to participate in this challenging course, they began their adventure. Each obstacle was more difficult than the last but their support for each other at each hurdle was amazing to watch. Highlights were jumping into a freezing ice bath (only to come out and run another 10 miles) and getting electrocuted just before the finish line!Bluefin can be proud of our amazing individuals. They raised over £2000 for One Kind Act, for which the charity are truly grateful. Destitute people around the world, who have had their lives affected by efforts such as ours, hopefully may be comforted in the knowledge that we are ready to make a difference!Event DetailsTough Mudder Challenge is as an 11 mile obstacle course which is famous for its incredible test of mental and physical strength. From barbed wire crawling, to climbing massive walls (and getting electrocuted… if that isn’t enough, ) this course is not for the faint-hearted. 12 Tough Mudders (Karun Soni, Hannah West, George Whitby, Nathan Adams, Chris Gully, Jack Clark, James Hale, Amy Widdicombe, Sally Jones, Lesley Elliot, Sarah Martin, Tom Edwards and Sully Hussein) from Bluefin, a SAP partner in the UK, will be participating in this event and hope to become real Tough Mudders in support of One Kind Act!About One Kind ActOne Kind Act Changes Communities and lives of others globally who suffer as a result of Poverty of Health, Nutrition and Education and may have Fallen Through The Net of the larger charities. Paris Half Marathon!
01 Feb 2016 - 30 Mar 2016
Amrisha and Alick are delighted to announce their forthcoming event, Paris Half Marathon: Post Event Update3 April 2016, Amrisha PrasharWe did it! Alick and I managed the #SemiParis! It was a crisp sunny Sunday in the city that took us on a beautiful route starting in the east of Paris at the Chateau de Vincennes, crossing the Place de la Nation, Bastille, parts of the Seine and back East. Best part was Parisian life continued as we ran the 21km! A HUGE thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all who sponsored One Kind Act, we managed to raise just over 1.3K! Here's to #livingandgiving Event Details Alick and I (Amrisha) have decided to take on the challenge of running the streets of Paris! Sadly it won't be us doing pit-stops from one wine bar to the next as we gorge on delicious bread and brie, but an enduring 21km as we take on the Paris Half Marathon! Some have said that's exciting, adventurous or...that we're simply a bit mad. We'll take on all three! And we do so, knowing we can raise money to help those less fortunate than us which OKA as a charity fully supports. OKA aims to help change communities and lives of others globally who suffer as a result of poverty of health, nutrition and education and may have fallen through the net of the larger charities whilst also ensuring minimum overheads and costs. The charity is run by Shamit (my uncle), who was inspired by my late grandfather's charitable giving throughout his life and compassion for those less fortunate. They have supported some great causes. Find out more here: https://onekindact.org/charity. As the charity grows, their ability to help those severely disadvantaged will expand. OKA's passion and dedication through it's vision and team is why we'd love to raise money to help them.So...with our task in hand! Our training for the half marathon has involved a strict regime of cross training sessions, yoga classes and regular long runs come rain or shine (wish we had more of the latter.) Our diets have been restricted to little alcohol and our sweet indulgences pushed to the side...sob, sob. And with 5 weeks to go the intensity is increasing. However, we are very excited by this challenge and hope to raise as much as we can for OKA!We'd love your support in helping us get through this race and donating in any which way you can.The A team (Alick and Amrisha)About One Kind ActOne Kind Act Changes Communities and lives of others globally who suffer as a result of Poverty of Health, Nutrition and Education and may have Fallen Through The Net of the larger charities.
