7 February 2016
OKA formally launched the charity with great pride and pleasure on Sat 6th Feb 2016. Almost 320 tickets were sold out within 24 hours of release, making it a night of eager anticipation. It was obvious on arrival that everyone had one thing in common - a desire to have fun.
Colourful cocktails and mouth-watering canapes were abundantly enjoyed, as guests chatted and mingled whilst perusing OKA t-shirts for sale and guessing the weight of a massive 10.5kg OKA cake. Guests took advantage of the professional photographer and posed happily in all their glamour. Zee TV covered the event interviewing several supporters and trustees. Dinner was a veritable banquet, served at tables adorned with lavish flower arrangements.
The formalities started with a short, slick video introducing a glimpse of OKA followed by an understated but powerfully emotive speech by founder Shamit Malhotra on how OKA came into existence.
The legendary Mama Lynn of Light in Africa charity took to stage with hair-raising stories of witch doctors, demand for albinos' body parts, young children being tied to trees and being saved from the brink of death. She spoke of hope to shelter more such children in the new building OKA has helped complete. There was an enthralled, poignant silence as she spoke.
Mark Ramprakash voiced his pride at being patron of a charity that is different in so many ways, not least because it endeavours for all money donated to go directly to the needy with no wasteful costs. He also wryly observed how he is often asked more about his dancing skills than cricket, leaving many women wondering why he hadn't offered a slinky salsa lesson instead of picking the winning raffle tickets!
The evening continued to run smoothly, thanks to the MCs - young, handsome Karun Soni and charming, eloquent Amrisha Prashar. Brazilian dancers in exotic feathers and agile street dancers with attitude entertained the crowd between speeches. Drink and dancing, fun and frivolity were plentiful all night. The auction, with varied and highly covetable prizes, surpassed all expectations in terms of fun, hilarity and most importantly, money raised.
Finally, an amusing light-hearted banter took place on stage between trustees, Ajay and Amit, about being "lean and mean" and the age old question of whether size is important! On a more serious note, they delighted and surprised the crowd by announcing that an outstanding amount of over £55,000 had been raised that night - which meant every pound of the £75 ticket price could and would be donated to charity. Ajay's assertion that OKA is a completely transparent charity was deeply appreciated by the audience.
The general sentiment of many as they left was that the event was smoothly and tastefully crafted out and a feeling of a warm glow in their hearts for having helped make the world a kinder place. Many guests expressed a desire to become involved with the OKA movement. Suffice to say, the evening of the OKA launch was a resounding success.

TESTIMONIALS
What an amazing event filled with so many emotions!
- The joy and happiness of such a well-organized event for such a great cause!
- The sadness and heart wrenching motions of hearing all the horrible, unimaginative things that children in Tanzania and many other countries go through!
- The admiration and sense of elation that there are people like Mama Lynn who dedicate their lives to helping others!
- The realisation if only everybody just did 1 kind act - what a difference we can collectively make.
Hats off to all that made this evening amazing and such a success.

A night to remember! Not only was the event brilliantly organised, it was immense fun. It certainly lived up to its ethos of raising money whilst having fun. Everything from the inspiring Mama Lynn talk on her charity to the entertaining and highly desirable auction prizes, made it a night I'd love to see happening more frequently!

Congratulations on raising so much money – it was a great evening.
The room was buzzing with energy, generosity and above all – kindness. A fantastic event put together by an enthusiastic team, and I was thrilled to learn that the majority of the ticket price went straight to those in need. Bring on the next one!

Attended a really worthy, charity event for OKA. Raising money for causes that are not high profile and so can get forgotten . It was an eye opener to hear of a cause looking after children with disabilities, in Tanzania. The money raised will change their lives .Apart from the good cause, had a great time and enjoyed the really well organised party.
Would definitely want to be a part of any future events. Well done to the OKA team !!

Hi Shimit and Rena
Wanted to congratulate you two in having organised a great evening!
We all give charities in our own ways but to actually set up an organisation needs a lot of efforts and commitment which can only be formed by special people such as you two!
May God give you all the help in keeping this Charity ongoing for many years to come. I pray your beautiful daughter will have a full recovery sooner than expected Inshallah!
Lots of love Yasmin
Thanks for a wonderful very well organized launch party for One Kind Act Charity. Congratulations for the hard work put in by you all . A very special Congratulation to the proud parents and to the excellent young artist and associate of the charity Karun Soni for his hard work and auctioning of his painting and raising £2,600 for the charity. We are all so proud of Karun. God bless him always . It was a great evening supporting an amazing cause. Let make this world a better place for the unfortunate kids of Tanzania and many more other causes this charity supports. . God bless Hafiz & Seema Ahmed xxx
Shamit hopefully we raised enough to support light in Africa and please help the children in Tanzania
Congratulations to the OKA team for a wonderful Launch and the incredible work that will be done with the funds raised. The evening was so well organized and hearing from Mama Lynn really gave meaning to how much work is needed to causes that find it difficult to get a voice. One Kind Act can really help.

"OKA is a special organization. By capturing the hearts of minds of friends and family, and giving them experiences which are super fun - they've found a way to raise money for grass root causes which otherwise would struggle to raise any money at all in Africa and India.
I've been to two events now, and I've spent the whole time dancing, singing or with a wig on my head with new and old friends - and always coming away feeling like I've made a small positive difference to a big cause."

CELEBRATING OUR STORY
As most of you are aware, One Kind Act (OKA) is a small non-profit making charity, aiming to invest its raised funds directly into causes that have fallen through the net from the support and the high profile fund-raising of medium-large registered charities and corporates. It seeks to aid those charities in areas around the world which have evolved locally to give relief to the indigenous people in dire need of help.
OKA was officially registered in January 2015, and its priority has been to put the basic structures in place, raise the awareness, attract sponsors, and of course, raise funds. To date, it has provided small grants for individual needs but now with gathering momentum of its awareness, OKA have identified and supported further new causes, Light in Africa in Tanzania and El Shaddai in Goa. At Light in Africa, English born, Mama Lynn runs orphanages for destitute children and has installed food camps and water tanks in remote areas where no such facilities have ever been available. In a similar vein, El Shaddai, rescues street children who otherwise have no future and provides them with shelter, food, schooling and aspirations to develop a better life for themselves.
Therefore, with these causes and more currently in mind, OKA proposes to hold its Launch Party.
The evening promises to be a fun, living and giving night. By simply turning up, laughing with friends over good food and wine and having a great night out, you will help support the lives of those in desperate need.
It’s a win-win situation.
