OFFL (Organising Food For London) have been supporting the street homeless and those in temporary shelters in London, in a non-judgemental way, with weekly cooked and non-perishable food supplies, clothing and other essential items for the last 15 years.

Since the start of the pandemic, they have extended their brief to include the elderly and vulnerable families due to high demand for their services, often from black, asian and minority ethnic as well as hard to reach communities and those with no recourse to public funds.  They continue to serve these vulnerable groups with weekly food and essential supplies in the London boroughs of Barnet, Brent, Ealing, Harrow, Haringey, Southwark and Westminster as well as in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Merseyside.

Update - Progress and Reviews - 17 December 2015

OKA HELPS OUT ON THE GROUND......

Fully clad in winter warmers to brace ourselves against the December winds, members of the OKA committee convened outside Embankment station at dusk. Despite the darkness, we could sense the eager anticipation of Christmas amidst the bustle of London’s streets and its beautifully lit-up landmarks around the river.

Whilst there was a joyful aura about us, our hearts and minds were a little pre-occupied. We had come here to help offer food to the homeless through the remarkable efforts of the charity OFFL (Organising Food for London’s Homeless). OFFL are a group a like-minded volunteers who have been assisting homeless people in London every week for the last 15 years.  Along with other charities and church groups, they ensure that the homeless receive a meal each day.

Without fail, every Wednesday evening, the OFFL team arrive with a van full of prepared food to be given out to the needy homeless people of London. These are people from all walks of life who have become victims of circumstance, ending up on the streets of London without food and shelter. They don’t know where their next meal is coming from and the cold winter months are, of course, the hardest to bear.

We, as associates of OKA, felt so privileged to be able to do two things to help go a little way in alleviating their hardship. To all those 50-60 people who turned up that evening, we were able to offer them a good wholesome hot meal and drink that OFFL had prepared. And perhaps more valued, we provided them with a winter pack each, full of necessities such as hats, gloves and non-perishable food to help face the harsh winter months ahead. These had been pre-prepared with the OFFL team and funded by OKA, with a donation of £500.00.

Although the night was cold and wintery, the experience itself was incredibly heart-warming.
